Oxford

A group of us went to Oxford, which appears to be similar to Hogwarts. In Oxford we saw New College, New College Garden, The Turf (the oldest pub in Oxford), the tree where Draco Malfoy became a ferret, and ate at a pub where C.S. Lewis frequently sat. One of our group members is writing a short story in the style of C.S. Lewis, so that was really awesome for us to see.

We saw the toured the Bodlian library and went to the “restricted” section of Hogwarts. Apparently, the library has been an academic library for years, yet only became popular since the Harry Potter movies.
Oxford is “the city of dreaming spires:” the sheldonion theatre, the first theatre designed by christopher wren which is still used for oxford graduation ceremonies, cobblestone streets, and the college system were all points of interest.

We were also lucky to be there on Alice Day, where illustrations for Alice in Wonderland were on display.

Hello! I am a first year graduate student for the M.A. in English program. As an undergraduate student, I majored in English and minored in Film Studies, so I will base my upcoming thesis on both of those areas. Which brings me to London: I am going to London to work on a thesis proposal for the future, and am very excited to work with Dr. Peterson and Dr. Bibbee on my project. I’m also very excited to meet the London squad since I only know a few of the members of this year’s London Campus. I feel very blessed to be part of this group and to be going to London. What I’m looking forward to most: going to an art cinema. What I’m looking forward to the least: eating fish and chips (although I will, because it’s a “must” over there, and you will see pictures. With that being said, onward to the blog!
