(Helen Keller Festival, Coldwater Books: Tuscumbia, AL)

Located in the Muscle Shoals region of the Tennessee River Valley, the Tennessee Valley Historical Society (TVHS) has been in existence since 1923 and has made huge contributions to the preservation and interpretation of history in the region. TVHS publishes a journal, The Journal of Muscle Shoals History, holds quarterly meetings with speakers, and funds scholarships to the University of North Alabama (UNA) in a partnership with the History Department at UNA. TVHS also participates in a number of local festivals and events, including the Helen Keller Festival, the Watermelon Festival and Florence’s First Fridays. TVHS and the Public History program at UNA have recently launched a partnership to engage students with local organizations and local history.
