Our days in Dar

Finally have good internet service. I’ll see if I can catch everyone up…

The students from the university came with us and we explored the city on Friday. Dr. Hambati gave us a wonderful tour. We got to see first-hand the urbanization patterns. We also discussed urban planning problems and issues the city is facing.  We got to see Askari monument, Kariakor, Machingo complex and many more place. The best was Coco beach on the Indian Ocean. It was breathtaking! Most of the students are becoming efficient at shopping here. So far, Zack is the best. He can get the price down. Jake has figured out how to “Americanize” African artifacts – put duct tape on them and voilà! This a picture of us having dinner with Dr. Hambati.

Hello everyone, this is Amanda. I am a graduate student in the Geography Department’s Geo-Spatial Science Program and an assistant for the Physical Geography field labs. I am from the ‘big town’ of Lutts, TN (you may have seen one of the numerous signs pointing to there, but probably never actually been there.) I graduated from Waterloo High School. I have a long background at UNA. I received my BA in Sociology and my MA Ed in Secondary Education from UNA. I am also a firefighter/EMT. I love helping people and teaching all ages. I enjoy anything to do with the outdoors - from gardening to kayaking, to camping and hiking.
