China-The First Three Days

First of all, I would like to apologize for not blogging since I arrived here. The internet connection at our dorm is really spotty. Most people have the internet, but unfortunately I cannot connect to the internet in my room. Fortunately, we found wifi-internet at a local cafe on campus. I am going to start with the flight. From Huntsville to Chicago took approximately 1.5 hours. I was real surprised at how speedy we got to Chicago. We spent most of the day in the city. Chicago is a very nice city. We saw many new and exciting things. The … // Read more

Dubai

We are in Dubai U.A.E. (the city of gold) and all is well. This city is awesome!! The flights were nice and smooth.  I have found a new hobby. The one to Dubai took 14 hours. Got to see the night lights of Ireland, England and France. Watched the sunrise over Germany -priceless!!!! You can tell we are all Geography majors because most of the time we talked about the patterns that we could see from the plane (the Geography professors would be proud.) It made me think a lot when we flew over the middle east because here I was drinking coffee and … // Read more

My little flying buddy…

Estamos aqui! We’re here! Finally! I feel like I have been awake for forever… probably because I have. It’s all worth it though! We flew from Huntsville to Charlotte to Newark to Lima. All the flights went smoothly and we did not get delayed so that was great! I had a great little flying buddy on the flight to Peru. Her name is Laura and she is probably about four years old and let me tell you, she has SUCH an imagination and she talked nonstop. Her mom kept telling her, in English and in Spanish, to quit bugging me … // Read more

Umm…We have to be at the airport at what time?

So… it is almost 11:00 PM and I still have a ton to do. Is my suitcase packed? Nope. Is it close to being packed? Nope. I always do this and I always hate myself for waiting until the last minute to pack. So… I always vow to never procrastinate and then I always break that vow the very next time. I think I have perfected my procrastination system for packing. Until now. I usually have the time to get up early to finish whatever needs to be done and it works out. However, I have never had to be … // Read more

This suitcase isn’t going to pack it self…Anybody?

Preparing to travel is one of my biggest fears, other than the creepy porcelain dolls my sister used to collect. My best work is done through the art and stress of procrastination, and this suitcase will be no different. I am arguably the best at packing too many clothes, most of which are not suitablefor where I am going. This lack of wardrobe prep bothers me little, though, because I am excited about the places I am about to see in Peru, and the foods and cultures I get to experience.   When I turned 18 and moved away from home, I made a 20 point bucket list. So far, I have completed … // Read more

Getting ready to leave

Hello everyone, this is Amanda from U.N.A. I will be the student blogger for the Geography department’s Africa trip. I hope all the friends and family members of the group will follow us as we explore the world of Tanzania and try to find Leo. (Remember to leave comments or questions and hashtag #UNAAfrica!!) The group will be a long way from home and we would like to see that someone is keeping up with us. Where do I start? I guess the best place is to say, “Africa, here I come!” Not sure whether to ask if I’m ready … // Read more

The Great Adventure Ahead-China 2012

The day is almost here! Less than 12 hours until myself and 23 other students will be on our way to China. I must admit, it’s hard to pack and plan for what is ahead. Not knowing the future is what makes this trip exciting. When trying to decide what to pack, I thought about what the amenities that our stay would have for us. Will we have the same things that we are accustomed to here in America? How far will we have to travel for food? What is the weather like? Should I pack light or heavy? Warm … // Read more
