Costa Rica

Climing a volcano and jumping off a waterfall only to be chased by a dinosaur

Ha! You guys probably really thought that I jumped off a waterfall, didn’t you? Nope, I’m still here. 😛 Although, I did jump into a waterfall when we visited La Fortuna. It was FREEZING! I almost turned into a popsicle, but I would do it again and next time I will bring a body suit. The walk down was about 20 minutes and then due to our enthusiasm, we made it back up in 10, maybe 15 minutes. It doesn’t look like I’m running up the stairs, but I’m taking those suckers two at a time and it was rough. I told them not to take me near stairs because I feel obligated to sprint up them, but the didn’t listen to me…..

Anyways, ehem. We then had to face a terrible T-Rex who tried to bite off my leg, but I used my superior stair climbing skills to get away, but unfortunately, I had to go back and rescue my fellow adventurers from an  impending death. So, I ran at lightning speed, grabbed onto a rope and swung up onto the back of the T-Rex, because as everybody knows this is the safest place on a T-Rex due to it’s lack of long arms, and then directed him into La Fortuna……I really didn’t do this, but my little sister told me that I would be that kid to go looking for dinosaurs in the jungle. She really does have a lot of faith in me; it’s too overwhelming.Thank you Jurassic Park.

This was definitely my favorite trip that we took. We stated at a lovely hotel that had seven different pools at different temperatures and it was fantastic. It was also pretty nice because the bathrooms were the size of a bedroom and had a walk in shower with plants in it. 🙂 I love showers and am now inspired for my dream home, so somebody had better start taking some notes. 🙂

We were also super lucky in that we got to see the peak of Arenal a couple of times. Usually, the clouds cover everything, so you don’t get a clear view of it, but we got to see the peak with the two cones and smoke coming out of one of them. The volcano is still considered active, but it hasn’t had an eruption in quite some time. I was kinda sad that I didn’t get to see any lava because I told my little brother that I was climbing a volcano. Sad day. But I still loved it! Now do watch the video!!!! It’s slow at first, but it gets better. 😛

¡Pura Vida from Costa Rica!

Olivia Melvin

Hi, everyone! I'm a 20-year-old senior majoring in Sociology and minoring in Psychology and Spanish. I'm originally from Puyallup, WA, but I've lived in six states since then with my six brothers and sisters. Visiting Costa Rica will be my first time leaving the country, but I hope it will be a precursor for future traveling adventures!
