From Cuy to Macchu Pichu: A Day Away

Tomorrow I will leave Florence to live in Peru for a month. High atop the Andes I, along with thirteen other students and the Department of Foreign Languages, will become immersed in the culture. We’ll speak the language, eat the food, listen and dance to the music and learn of civilizations that have come and gone.

As a Spanish major, this immersion is the next step in becoming fluent in the language, and for others will be their first exposure to a new language entirely. Some people will eat cuy, or guinea pig, several of us will come back with “baby alpaca” wool souvenirs and all of us will hike to the top of Macchu Pichu to represent our UNA.

Tomorrow will begin a month-long experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives, so keep an eye out for photos and stories of our time in Cusco and enjoy this experience with us.

Dallas Moore

Dallas Moore will begin his Senior year in the Fall. He is ready to go abroad for the first time, and be immersed into the language of Peru because he is a Spanish and Business Major. He has kayaked Cypress Creek on many occasion. Follow his blog as he checks out the Floating Islands of Lake Titicaca this summer.
