Manuel Antonio

On the weekends we have the opportunity to take excursions with a guide from CPI. These are weekends full of fun and absent of homework! However, the learning never stops. There are always opportunities to use Spanish no matter where we go in this beautiful country. We met at the church at 6:00 a.m. I had told my mamatica not to worry about fixing me breakfast and I’m glad I did because I was pushing to get out the door that morning! After driving on the bus for a while, we stopped to get breakfast. I don’t eat gallo pinto … // Read more

Did I really do that?

Ever since I heard this trip offered the opportunity to bungee jump, I have been nervous. That’s just the kind of person I am. My mind works 24/7 on overthinking everything and bungee jumping is not an exception. A few months ago, I just went ahead and decided that it was not for me. I even took the time to write about how I was not going to do it in my biography on this blog. (I should probably change that now) However, I knew that I would end up on that rusty bridge. I knew I would regret it … // Read more

¡Estaba muy divertido!

I honestly can’t think of a better way that I could be starting off my 20th year on this Earth. This trip has been the experience of a lifetime and it’s only one third of the way through! Yesterday morning, as I was walking the streets to meet my friends for lunch, I kept thanking God for the opportunity to study in this beautiful country. I love that I am experiencing new things almost every day. For example, on Wednesday I legitimately rode a train to the capitol city of San Jose. I’m not talking about the little one at … // Read more

The Best Decision of my Life

“Endless Adventure and Untold Excitement Await.” It’s a phrase that should be easy for a (true) nerd to point out. (Points if you are the first that can name where it comes from.) Regardless, I believe that it is honestly the best way to sum up my experience in Costa Rica so far. I knew that before I came here, I would probably love it. Well, there is absolutely no way I could have prepared myself to have such a blast in such a short time. We’ve been here for the past six and a half days and I’ve had a … // Read more

The Adventures Begin!

After some plane delays due to weather, we finally made it to Costa Rica! The first night we stayed at a Bed & Breakfast. It defenitely wasn’t an American Bed & Breakfast, and my roomates and I had some battles with bugs, but we were able to get a great night’s rest and wake up to a beautiful view of the mountains and clouds of Costa Rica.                 That next day, our chaperone from CPI, Lamar, took us on a walking tour of San Joaquin de Flores. It’s no question that our own … // Read more

Where the Streets Have No Name

Let me begin this with a small caveat. I’m what well-organized, responsible people would call a huge procrastinator. It’s part of my charm. If you ever get the chance to know me well, you’ll appreciate it. As I type this post it is the end of my third day (second full day) in Heredia, Costa Rica. When I arrived in Costa Rica two days ago, within an hour of being outdoors and feeling the cool, tropical winds blowing against me, I knew that coming to Costa Rica was one of the best choices I’ve ever made. Everything here is fresh. … // Read more

Today is the Day

I’m somewhat of a procrastinator. That was proven true when I finally decided to start packing around 9:30 last night! I finished around 12:30 this morning and I think I have everything. I definitely felt more prepared to pack for an adventure abroad after my trip to Senegal.   There are a few things that I have found are necessities no matter where I travel: My Bible and journal (I suggest writing any moments or experiences that you decide you never want to forget) A pillow and blanket for the plane (You’ve got to be comfortable….plus long plane rides can … // Read more

Our first week in Europe

Week 2 in China

Week two in China has been great! It started off with us visiting a local high school and talking and answering questions the students had. The visit to the school was definitely a great comparison as to how different our education system in America is to that of China. Each classroom had about 40-50 students in it, all crammed into a small room with no air conditioning. It was about 85 degrees the day we visited, and it felt like 95 in the classroom. The students gave us a presentation about Chinese culture, dance, and food. After they did the … // Read more

Why Study Abroad

Check out this great video from the University of North Alabama students who went on a study abroad trip to Peru this summer!
